Ships sailing at sea rely on the propeller to rotate underwater to generate thrust, and the device or mechanism that converts the power emitted by the main engine into the forward power of the ship is collectively referred to as a propeller. At present, the propeller (propeller) is most commonly used in ships. If we call the main engine the heart of the ship, we can call the propeller the leg of the ship. What are the main types of propellers?

There are many types of propellers. For example, according to the blades, they can be divided into 2, 3, 4 blades, or even more. Of course, the more blades, the greater the power, and according to the structure, it can be divided into the following types.
1. Fixed pitch propellerThe blades of a fixed-pitch propeller are fixed, and the propeller must be reversed when the ship reverses, which can be achieved by reversing the clutch or the direction of rotation of the main engine. When the ship is docked, the main engine stops and the propeller does not rotate, which will not affect the surrounding moored ships, and will not wind up the mooring cables. Fixed-pitch propellers are robust and less prone to damage.
2. Variable pitch propeller
The controllable pitch propeller is also known as the variable pitch propeller, which can rotate the propeller blades through the mechanism in the hub to adjust the pitch and angle of the blade rotation to adapt to the propellers required in various scenarios. The blades of the variable pitch propeller are not directly fixed on the propeller hub, but rotate around the axis perpendicular to the propeller shaft, and the pitch angle is changed by the mechanism in the propeller hub, thereby changing the magnitude and direction of the propulsion power.
Variable pitch propellers are ideal for ships with large variations in load or power, such as icebreakers, tugboats, and fishing boats.
3.Propeller with shroud
The purpose of the shroud is to increase the thrust of the propeller. Since the speed of the water entering the shroud is higher than the speed of the water outside the propeller, the thrust of the propeller will naturally increase after the generated pressure increases. The shroud can also reduce noise and vibration, and it is also very energy efficient. The propeller with the shroud is suitable for almost all ships except high-speed boats, especially inland ships, dredgers, fishing boats and supply vessels.

4.Rudder propeller
The main feature of the rudder propeller (pod propeller) is that the propeller can rotate freely like a rudder, even 360°. The reverse thrust of the podded thruster is basically the same as the thrust thrust, and the forward and reverse transitions are also very fast. At the same time, as long as the propeller is turned left or right, side thrust can be generated, so it is both a thruster and a rudder. Therefore, its maneuverability is particularly good, and it is widely used in tugboats and boats with high maneuverability.

5.Electric Marine Propeller
The drive of electric marine propeller does not require gearbox, clutch, propeller shaft and rudder, and its design and structure are relatively simple compared with other propeller drive equipment.
